Nottinghamshire's defence of their Division One County Championship got off to a solid start as they earned a draw at Taunton against Somerset with a number of promising performances that will give them a boost going into the upcoming games.
As was expected, it was an encounter between two very good sides who may well both be in contention come the end of the season. For Notts, the biggest takeaway will be that all of their batters got starts in the first innings and will be keen to push on from there with big scores seemingly just around the corner.
On the bowling front, with Brett Hutton not quite fit and Fergus O'Neill not being thrown into the game having just touched down in the country, it was Dillon Pennington who took up the mantle with the ball with a first-innings five-for. The ever-improving Liam Patterson-White and his role as both a containing option and wicket-taking option were evident across both innings.
Andy Moore takes a look at three analysis points from the Somerset v Notts game.
