Paul Franks admitted Nottinghamshire were not at their best as Leicestershire ended their Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign with a 23-run semi-final victory, but insisted the Outlaws can look back on a summer of significant progress despite falling short of a place in September's final.
Nottinghamshire were eventually bowled out for 280 in 49 overs after Leicestershire had posted 303-7, with Hamza Shaikh's magnificent 104 from 109 balls proving the foundation for the hosts' total.
The Outlaws remained firmly in the contest for much of the chase. Freddie McCann top-scored with 64 from 83 balls, while Haseeb Hameed made 54 from 47 and both Benjamin Martindale and Kyle Verreynne contributed 43. However, Leicestershire's bowling attack held its nerve when the pressure increased, with Alex Green taking an outstanding 4-40, supported by two wickets apiece for Ian Holland and Tom Scriven.
