County Championship Essex Team Profile

With the start of the County Championship less than two weeks away, we take a look at the consistent Essex side who are looking to push towards a Championship tilt. They have a solid looking squad that perhaps misses some firepower or star quality. Can they get on a decent run and put pressure on those teams that'll be in and around the mix?

Essex's 2025 season was middle of the road and pretty vanilla, so 2026 represents a chance to push them forward rather than backwards. Chelmsford is a tough place to play cricket and if they can make the County Ground a fortress, it will give them a big boost.

Squad Overview

There is a lot to like about the Essex squad for 2026, they have brought in a couple of smart players to boost their side and they have a consistent squad with a few almost perfect domestic cricket players. Their batting will rely on the steady head of Dean Elgar at the top of the order and the style and quality of Jordan Cox in the middle-order.

Their bowling corps are impressive with Jamie Porter again leading the line but the signing of Zaman Akhter is a very decent addition to a group that also includes Sam Cook and Shane Snater. If these all fire at the same time, that alone will get them into the mix.
