The Blaze made a pleasing return to the Metro Bank One Day Cup as they beat Surrey at Beckenham by five wickets, thanks in large part to a match-winning 96 from Georgia Elwiss.
Having won the toss and seen the opening bowlers, Grace Ballinger and Charley Phillips, go wicketless early on, Surrey were in a prime position to win with an opening partnership of 89 between Alice Monaghan and Rhianna MacDonald-Gay.
Once they departed, Surrey struggled to keep the runs flowing, with Maria Andrews, on her List A debut, returning three for 40 as her left-arm spin proved difficult to get away.
While most of the Surrey top order got starts, they all failed to score freely, with only Jemima Spence passing fifty with 59 from 72 balls.
