Kirstie Gordon is the sort of captain who leads by example**, a real character who expects high standards of herself and the players she has at her command.** When Gordon came to the crease with the score on 131 for six, it was looking dicey for the East Midlands side.

Gordon was shortly joined by Lucy Higham, and together they added 83 for the eighth wicket. It gave The Blaze a total of 140 for eight.

Against a Durham side that has been prone to a collapse themselves, it gave The Blaze the belief that they could win this game. A side that always backs its bowlers, The Blaze went out into the field with a spring in their step.

It was Charley Phillips who made early inroads; she took four wickets in nine balls to leave the hosts 37 for five and claim a first five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of five for 49.
