Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club travel to Chelmsford on Friday looking to respond positively to their first defeat of the County Championship season as they take on an Essex side that has quietly climbed to the summit of Division One.
The loss to Somerset at Trent Bridge last week was a sobering reminder that even the strongest sides can be punished when they fall below their usual standards. Somerset comprehensively outplayed Notts across four days, eventually securing a 306-run victory and ending Nottinghamshire's long unbeaten run on home soil.
