When England walk out for the first Test against New Zealand today, Nottinghamshire supporters will have a little extra reason to tune in.

Not one, but two Trent Bridge favourites will be involved, with Ben Duckett and Josh Tongue both rewarded for excellent starts to the county season. While their England selection will come as no surprise to anyone who has watched Nottinghamshire closely over the opening weeks, it does provide a timely reminder of just how important both players have become to club and country alike.

For Duckett especially, this call-up feels particularly satisfying.

Back in March, the left-hander made the eye-catching decision to withdraw from a lucrative IPL contract with Delhi Capitals worth around £200,000. Rather than chase franchise riches, Duckett prioritised red-ball cricket and his England ambitions, choosing instead to play for Nottinghamshire at the start of the County Championship season in a bid to cement his Test place after a testing winter.
